A Happy Smile Starts At a Young Age

Posted by Dr. Dadseresht on Aug 1 2020, 04:34 PM

A baby develops their teeth (known as “primary teeth”) between 6 months to 1 year of age. Usually by the age of 3, children have their full set of 20 primary teeth. It is typical for the first few teeth to become exposed through the gum tissue in the front of the mouth. Some remedies to help ease the pain of teething include rubbing the baby’s gums with a clean finger, a teething ring, or even, a cool spoon

It is advised to have the baby’s first dental visit near his first birthday. This dental visit is to act as a checkup for their growth and development. Aside from teaching proper brushing techniques, the Dentist will check for cavities and give tips on how to quit thumbsucking.

Between the ages of 6 and 12is when the primary teeth will begin to wiggle and fall out, allowing for the exposure of adult teeth (“permanent teeth”).It is best to encourage children to not force pull or push the wiggling primary teeth. These teeth will naturally fall out when the body allows. If anything is forced, it could hinder jaw development and affect future alignment of the permanent teeth, which will require Orthodontic treatment to correct.By about age 21, the average person will have 32 permanent teeth.

It is probably time to schedule your child's next dental visit.
